Lincolnshire Strategic Farm: Are worm burdens affecting the performance of your lambs?
It is well recognised that worm control is vital for good growth rates and a profitable sheep system, however with resistance to wormers on the rise, there is increased concern around how to manage this. Even a modest worm burden, with no clinical signs of infection in lambs, can reduce performance and considerably increase costs. Most farms have some resistance to the white (1-BZ) group with resistance to the other two older groups less common, but still increasing year-on-year.
AHDB Strategic Farmers Chris and Louise Elkington are taking steps to reduce their risk of anthelmintic resistance. They use faecal egg counts to determine the need to treat, whilst also rotating wormer choice and checking the effectiveness of wormer groups to build up a picture of the efficacy of different groups on the farm.
Join us for this on-farm event where you will hear more from Chris and Louise as well as expert speakers, discussing:
- How to faecal egg count
- What anthelmintic resistance is and its causes
- How to understand if you have anthelmintic resistance
- How to avoid anthelmintic resistance through drug choice and administration method
Lunch and refreshment will be provided, please let us know of any specific dietary requirements.
