Milk forecasting forum

Updated 12 February 2020

Milk production is a fundamental driver of market dynamics in Great Britain. We hold a milk forecasting forum twice a year, where representatives from across the industry debate, analyse and discuss the key factors influencing production. Here you can find the latest information shared with the group.

The AHDB Milk Forecasting Forum (MFF) met on the 11 February to discuss the factors impacting on future GB milk production. These included:

  • The rise in milk solids, with causes including good cow condition, silage quality, and improving herd genetics
  • How ground conditions following a wet autumn could affect spring turnout and delay this year’s peak
  • The increasing shift towards sorted inseminations, which could help reduce unwanted bull calves and potentially accelerate genetic improvements in herds.

We will be updating our official milk production forecast in March. You can find the previous forecast update here.
