UK pig meat marketing chain

We outline the size and scale of the pig meat marketing chain in the UK in 2024.
- In 2024 the volume of pig meat available for consumption within the UK was estimated be 1.61 million tonnes
- Slaughtered pig meat production in the UK was calculated to be 960,800 tonnes from the slaughtering of 10.5 million head
- The live trade for exports was negligible, but over 375,700 pigs were imported into the UK over the year
- Pig meat exports into the UK were calculated to be 151,600 tonnes, with the vast majority being fresh and frozen pork. Pig meat imports were 804,200 tonnes split almost equally between fresh and frozen pork and processed pork products, including bacon
- Pig offal exports from the UK are significant at 142,700 tonnes, worth approximately £161.8m
