Beef foodservice performance

Over the past 52 weeks to 14 June 2026, beef volumes in foodservice declined −3.5% year-on-year1. This is despite average prices decreasing -0.3%2. The decline was primarily due to takeaways, which saw a −8.5% decline in volumes year-on-year.

Burgers meals make up 49% of total beef foodservice volumes. Beef burger volumes were up 1.6% year-on-year.  This overturned the decline seen in the previous period1. This was driven by shoppers buying more burgers per trip2.

Asian (+5.9%) dishes also saw growth1, driven by an increase in volumes per buyer and people bought them more often2.

Volume declined for Italian (−2.9%), meat-centred meals (−12.8%), sandwiches (−2.1%), savoury pastry (−8.7%) and beef Mexican meals (−21.2%)1.

Lamb foodservice performance

In the 52 weeks ending 14 June 2026, volumes for total lamb in foodservice declined by 7.3% year-on-year1. This was driven by decreases in both takeaways and dine-in/on-the-go dishes, likely due to average price increases of +5.2%2.

Kebabs make up 51% of all lamb volumes sold out-of-home. They continued to decline (-6.2% year-on-year1) due to decreases in volumes per trip and shoppers buying them less often2.

Volume declines were also seen for Indian meals (−10.0%), meat-centred meals (−5.0%), savoury pastries (−30.7%), soups (−48.4%) and Mexican dishes (−60.0%)1.

In contrast, volumes increased for Asian dishes (+9.6%)1 as shoppers bought them more2. Salad and sandwiches grew in volumes benefiting from warmer weather 1.

Pig meat foodservice performance

In the 52 weeks ending 14 June 2026, volumes for pig meat in foodservice declined −4.6% year-on-year1. This was driven by a decline in both takeaways and dine-in/on-the-go dishes. During this time, average prices per pack increased +5.2%2.

Sandwiches are the most popular pigmeat dish out-of-home. They saw a +2.9% growth in volume, potentially benefiting from warmer weather1.

Burgers saw volumes grow +38.7%1. This was driven by shoppers buying them more often.

Italian and Mexican meals both grew in popularity. Sales of Italian dishes increased by 16.3%1 as existing customers bought them more often2. Mexican dishes grew by 19.3%1 because more people started buying them2.

In contrast, volumes declined for savoury pastries (-11.8%), breakfasts (−4.9%), Indian (−8.7%) Asian (−2.3%), pizza (-4.0%) and meat-centred meals (−8.2%).
