RL interactive: Find the best varieties for your business

RL interactive lets you quickly filter varieties on the Recommended Lists for cereals and oilseeds (RL) to find those that match your farm’s needs.

RL interactive is an online tool based on the full set of varieties in the following RL crop lists: winter wheat, winter barley, spring barley, winter oats, spring oats and winter oilseed rape.

The tool features filters so you can quickly find the varieties best suited to your market, quality, yield, disease resistance and agronomic requirements.

It lets you create your own bespoke lists.

For example, you can use RL interactive to:

• Select varieties for specific end-use markets or categories
• Specify the minimum requirements for fungicide-treated yield
• Find varieties with high levels of resistance to specific diseases
• Filter varieties based on key agronomic data
• Compare varieties side-by-side
• Download results for printing or further analysis

We developed the tool after the 2022 to 2023 RL review, which identified a need for more digital solutions for variety data.

In response to an earlier RL review, we developed the variety selection tool in 2015, which provides unprecedented power to navigate and interrogate variety trial data.

As many RL users wanted something simpler, we developed RL interactive to be a stepping stone between the feature-packed variety selection tool and the static RL tables.

During 2024, we worked with potential users to develop the tool. This identified a strong preference for the inclusion of data filters, like those used in the AHDB Recommended Grass and Clover List online tool.

RL interactive was first released in January 2025.

RL interactive is updated in January, after the release of the latest online tables.

The online tables are published in either late November or early December every year.
