Webinar: Getting to grips with Johnes disease in the suckler herd

Past Event

Thursday, 28 April 2022

7:00pm - 8:00pm

Johnes disease is a hidden disease of cattle which is ultimately fatal. The disease progressively damages the intestines of the affected animal, resulting in profuse and persistent diarrhoea. Unfortunately, there is no cure, and therefore detection and prevention are the only ways of controlling the disease.

During this webinar George Caldow, Head of SRUC Veterinary services, will discuss the latest recommendations for managing Johnes in the suckler herd including:

  • Testing for Johnes
  • How to manage positive cows
  • Sourcing healthy replacement heifers
  • Johnes transmission between cattle and sheep

George Caldow has studied Johnes disease for most of his working life and will therefore be able to answer any questions you have about managing the disease in your herd.

This webinar forms part of the AHDB Maternal Matters campaign, helping suckler producers breed heifer replacements which are efficient, profitable and fit for the future.
