Webinar: Getting the most out of your permanent pasture

Past Event

Thursday, 16 April 2020

6:00pm - 7:00pm

Join AHDB Beef and Lamb and Dr Liz Genever, Independent beef and sheep consultant, for a webinar on getting the most out of your permanent pasture.

The value of long-term grassland is often underrated. It is likely that the annual yield and quality of permanent pasture is less than for a new ley, but there are benefits in terms of costs and carrying capacity especially in wetter times. The aim is to make your permanent pasture work harder by ensuring it is well-managed. If the soil and the sward are managed efficiently, grass and animal production can be very good.

The webinar will cover:

  • Soil management, including the importance of soil testing and options to deal with compaction issues
  • Grazing management, including sward height targets and grazing systems
  • Options to improve the sward, including overseeding and weed control
  • Dealing with parasite control

The webinar will last approximately 30 minutes, with time for questions at the end.

If you can’t make the webinar, please still register, as it will be recorded and sent to you afterwards to watch in your own time.
