Prepared for life without direct payments?

Friday, 15 March 2019

Regardless of what happens with Brexit, unless the UK stays in, farmers in England will see direct payments removed by 2028. The situation for farmers in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, (as of 11 March 2019) is unclear.

All the uncertainty understandably makes planning difficult. That said, simply looking at the current businesses performance with direct payments and without is an important thing to do.

It will give a clear picture as to whether the business will be resilient to this change, needs to adapt or might not survive.

Planning like this can be quite a daunting affair, especially with some of the very difficult questions farmers will need to ask themselves. To assist with this, AHDB has a wide variety of tools and advice available around business planning on the website. This includes support with personal/business objectives and the Brexit impact calculator.
