Hear the myths and the truths about succession from both the farmer's and the accountant's perspective, and get some of the information you need to start having effective succession discussions.

Philip Dolbear has spent a career in agriculture as Consultant, Agriculture Bank Manager and since 2013, as Knowledge Exchange Manager with the AHDB Cereals and Oilseeds sector covering the South West. He specialises in all farm business management matters.

Andrew Vickery comes from a Somerset dairy farming family and lives at home on the family farm with his young family. After completing his agriculture degree at Reading in 2003, he joined Old Mill to train as a Chartered Accountant, becoming head of the firm’s 120-strong Rural Services department in 2012. As part of Andrew’s wider accountancy and tax work on many farming clients, he has a particular focus on longer term planning matters, including Succession and Inheritance Tax planning.

Paul Harris is a Dorset farmer, mainly arable, who diversified into turf production. Both a son and a daughter want to be involved in the family business, so succession planning is at the forefront of his thoughts. His main question is: is it necessary to involve a professional? Can't the family just decide?
