Cornwall Strategic Farm: Maximising lamb performance and the use of trace elements
Adrian Coombe joined AHDB’s Farm Excellence project as a Beef and Lamb Strategic Farmer in 2019. Located in Cornwall, Adrian runs a flock of 600 North Country mules alongside 180 beef cattle each year.
With weaning on the horizon for many flocks, management decisions made now will impact days-to-finish for this year’s lamb crop. Ensuring trace elements are available in the right quantities can boost performance by optimising feed conversion. The most economically important trace elements are copper, selenium, cobalt and iodine. Following a mineral investigation, Adrian now has more information to make informed supplementation decisions.
This event will include discussion on topics such as:
- Optimising trace elements to improve growth rates in finishing lambs
- Investigating mineral deficiencies to inform supplementation decisions
- Maximising lamb performance from grass
We’ll be joined by Miranda Macinnes who is a Veterinary Surgeon at Calweton Veterinary Group, and Charlie Morgan an Independent Grassland Consultant who supports Adrian as part of Strategic Farm project.
Lunch and refreshment will be provided, please let us know of any specific dietary requirements. We look forward to welcoming you to the event.
