Pork from the UK takes centre stage at SIAL China
Friday, 14 May 2021
Exporters will have the opportunity to showcase high-quality pork from the UK in the valuable Chinese market next week, at Asia’s largest food and beverage show.
We will once again have a presence at SIAL China – a major exhibition which sets the benchmark for overseas companies stepping into the Asian marketplace.
As well as providing valuable market insight, trends and innovations of the food industry, the three-day event, which starts on Tuesday, presents a significant networking opportunity for exporters looking to grow their business in this all-important region.
Due to ongoing travel restrictions, our stand will be hosted by our China-based representative Holly Chen, who will be joined by UK pork exporters' China-based teams. By attending the show, we are looking to add value to farm businesses and continue boosting red meat exports to the country.
AHDB Export Manager, Susan Stewart, said: “This is a hugely important event which provides valuable networking opportunities for UK exporters and allows us to showcase our pork to a number of key influencers and importers.
“China remains a key market for our pork exports and despite the challenges of the last year, AHDB is committed to exploring all potential opportunities within this region and continuing to develop strong relationships to support trade between the UK and China.”
The value of pork exports has risen dramatically over the last few years, rising 46% in 2020 – up from £191 million in 2019, to a staggering £279 million.
As part of our ongoing export activities in China, we will also be hosting a media event on Friday 21 May which will see members of the Chinese press sample four UK pork dishes, prepared by Chef Su at the restaurant in the Sofitel hotel.
As well as tasting pork from the UK, the attendees will also have the opportunity to learn more about UK pork production through a virtual greeting from AHDB’s Head of Asia Pacific Jonathan Eckley.
Later in the year, we will also be attending the China International Meat Industry Exhibition in Qingdao and FHC, Food and Hospitality China in Shanghai. For more information about our export activity, visit: ahdb.org.uk/exports/meat.
