Lamb prices ease, while cull ewe numbers tick up

Thursday, 25 August 2022

For the week ending 24 August, the GB liveweight NSL SQQ stood at 239.5p/kg, only marginally down on the price seen the previous week, and in line with the price seen for the same week last year. Despite the easing in prices over the last few weeks, the NSL SQQ stands 41p above the 5-year average price.

Cull ewes averaged £74.98/head, with an estimated 50,728 brought forward in the week, 17% up on last week and 10% up on the number brought forward for the week last year. Ewe prices are reflective of more numbers forward nationally, with reports suggesting that the condition of ewes brought forward is mixed.

The GB deadweight NSL SQQ for the week ending 20 August eased 2.6p to average 542.8p/kg, up 94.7p on the 5-year average price. There were an estimated 216,400 lambs slaughtered during the week.
