GB milk deliveries: August milk deliveries continue to march on
Tuesday, 9 September 2025
GB milk deliveries in August are estimated to have totalled 1,040 million litres, up 4.9% compared to the same period in 2024. Daily deliveries averaged at 33.58 million litres.
Production for this year’s milk season so far (April-August) sits at 5,535 million litres, up 5.2% compared to the same period in 2024.
Milk volumes continue to record new highs, and this is the highest volume recorded in August. With a firm start to the year, volumes are increasing amid favourable economics.
Alongside this, the milk solids (butterfat and protein) components of milk have also increased.

The milk to feed price ratio (MFPR) continues to be in the expansion zone incentivising farmers to push production.
Though recent milk price announcements in September are mixed in direction, on the average prices are more or less steady. GB calf registrations have increased in Q2 suggesting better herd performance and favourable margins for the farmers.
The Met Office reported unsettled weather condition in August with showers, thunderstorm and heat wave noticed during the month although dry conditions returned for most.
Grass growth is below last year’s and the 5-year average levels, raising concerns for winter forage. Although growth has been very regional, it is still a challenge for many.
Commodity prices have cooled off slightly as seen in the latest UK wholesale prices. The recent weakness in GDT and reports from the continent also suggests easing of prices in the coming days.
Milk prices could therefore decline on the back of easing commodity prices. With global milk supplies growing and pressuring commodity prices, strong cull cow prices, uncertainty of winter forage, future finances and global geopolitical factors, could put a brake on production.
