Webinar: Managing cows during pregnancy to improve calf health, welfare and performance

Past Event

Thursday, 29 September 2022

7:00pm - 8:00pm

How we manage suckler cows during pregnancy can have a big impact on calf lifetime performance. In scientific terms, this is referred to as foetal programming where environmental factors during pregnancy cause permanent effects to the progeny long after birth. This has been studied extensively in humans, and more recently in livestock.

During this webinar Dr Kenny Rutherford, scientist at SRUC will explain how cow nutrition, health, housing and their environment can all affect calf development and production quality and what we can try and do to mitigate the risk.

This webinar forms part of the AHDB Maternal Matters campaign, helping suckler producers breed heifer replacements which are efficient, profitable and fit for the future.
