Monitor Farm Monday: Preparing for ELMS - understanding 'natural capital' and establishing a beneficial partnership
Join us for the latest webinar in our Monitor Farm Mondays series, where we will be discussing how to prepare for the Environmental Land Management Scheme (ELMS).
Speakers: Marek Nowakowski (Wildlife Farming Company) and Mark Chandler (Petworth Monitor Farm)
Host: Paul Hill
With the phasing out of pillar one payments beginning in 2021, we are now entering the “transition period”. It is therefore the time to revaluate how we sustainably manage our arable businesses in accordance with the Government's future farming policy, which highlights better protection, utilisation and integration of our natural capital.
In 2024, ELMS will be officially introduced which will replace the current Countryside Stewardship Scheme. This new scheme will place greater importance and emphasis on the better protection and enhancement of the landscapes in which we farm.
At this meeting we will first remind ourselves what is meant by 'natural capital'. We will then discuss strategies for realistically and benefically integrating natural capital into our arable businesses to help us develop robust, sustainable and compliant farming enterprises both for now and the future.
Mark Chandler (Petworth Monitor Farm) will join the discussion and talk about how he is preparing his farming business for the challenges ahead.
BASIS and NRoSO points will be available for attending this webinar.
