Following on from our summer event, join host farmer Rob Gemmil and Elizabeth Stockdale (NIAB) for a practical look at soil health, soil structure and how to make the most of nitrogen on farm.

What to expect

  • Explore Rob's crop rotation and discuss how cropping and soil management can influence soil health, crop performance and nutrient use
  • Take part in a hands-on soil assessment in the field
  • See a live demonstration of the VESS (Visual Evaluation of Soil Structure) assessment and learn how to recognise signs of good soil structure, as well as issues such as compaction that could affect rooting and crop growth
  • Hear how Elizabeth's research and Rob's on-farm experience can help turn science into practical farm management
  • Discover how soil assessments can inform management decisions and improve nitrogen use efficiency
  • Share experiences, ask questions and explore how a better understanding of your soils can support productive crops and more effective use of nitrogen

Please bring suitable footwear and clothing for a field walk.

BASIS points are available for attending this event, and lunch is included
