2:00pm - 4:00pm

Bondon Farm, Birdingbury, Rugby, Warwickshire

CV23 8ET

You’re invited by the Performance Recorded Lleyn Breeders (PRLB), with kind permission from Wallace and Heather McCurdie, to find out about the Breed for CH4nge project.

Breed for CH4nge is a three-year project helping the UK sheep industry breed more sustainable stock and reach greenhouse gas emissions targets.

You will also have the opportunity to speak to AHDB staff, Sam Boon – Signet Breeding Services and Emma Steele – Beef & Lamb Engagement Manager (Midlands)

Find out what has been learnt from the first year of the project and what 13 Lleyn breeders are contributing to the data – not just methane measurements, but parasite resistance, lamb growth, assessment of the microbiome and rumen volume, as well as feed efficiency to make sure we do not select for any single trait at the expense of other valuable traits. The aim is to produce efficient and sustainable sheep for the long term.

Speakers

  • Richard Evans, Farmer & PRLB Chair
  • Wallace McCurdie, Bondon Farm
  • Janet Roden, Breed for CH4nge
  • Sam Boon, Signet (AHDB)
  • George Cullimore and Duncan Nelless, Farmers
