Liveweight new season lamb prices tick up

In the week ending 2 June, the GB NSL liveweight SQQ averaged 328.2p/kg, up 4.8p on the week before. The GB OSL SQQ fell however, averaging 240.6p/kg, down 22p on the week.

Estimated throughputs of old and new season lambs of all grades at GB auction marts totalled 87,700 head, down 1% on the week and down 13% on the year. The latest week contained the late May bank holiday. New season lambs made up 79% of throughputs for the week.

Prices on the deadweight front were more one-directional. In the week ending 29 May, the GB NSL SQQ averaged 663.7p/kg, down 5.7p on the week before. The GB OSL SQQ averaged 632.3p/kg, down 7.7p on the week.

Cull ewes averaged £104.77/head liveweight in the week ending 2 June, up £5.66 on the week before.
