Liveweight lamb prices tick up again

Thursday, 19 August 2021

By Rebecca Wright

It was another week of gains for the GB liveweight NSL SQQ. In the week ended 18 August, the quote increased 4p week-on-week, to 238.1p/kg. The gains were weighted towards early in the week. In the most recent days, prices have been steady on a week earlier.

There was a noticeable uplift in throughputs this week, increasing 10% week-on-week, to 110,600 head. Numbers remained below year-earlier levels although this is not unexpected as kill was unusually high at this time last year.

Meanwhile, deadweight prices have continued to face pressure. The GB deadweight NSL SQQ dropped 13p in the week ended 14 August, to 515.8p/kg. Estimated kill for the week stood at 215,900 head, down 32% on the year.
