Liveweight lamb prices drop but deadweight prices pick up

In the week ending 15 June, the GB liveweight NSL SQQ averaged 309.1p/kg, down 22.9p from the week before, still above the same time last year by 10.7p.

An estimated 95,300 lambs (new and old season) were sold at auction markets, up 10% on the previous week due to bank holidays and an increase of 6% compared to last year.

Culls ewes sold at auction averaged £115.75/head with an estimated throughput of 45,300 head.

The GB deadweight NSL SQQ averaged 692.9p/kg in the week ending 11 June, up 8.2p from the week previous, and up on the same week last year by 27.7p.

Estimated lamb slaughter totalled 185,500 head for the week, up 31% from the previous shortened week.
