Lamb prices slip into September

Thursday, 9 September 2021

By Rebecca Wright

Liveweight prices have been under pressure this week, with the GB liveweight NSL SQQ falling 4.25p to 232.89p/kg in the week ended 8 September. There was a noticeable uptick in numbers coming forwards. Lamb throughputs for the week stood at 129,500 head.

During the week ending 4 September, the GB deadweight NSL SQQ declined 1.4p, to 529.1p/kg. The quote remains over 70p above year-earlier levels.

Some industry reports suggest that supermarkets are reluctant to push lamb currently due to where their profit margin stands. This could bring pressure to the market. Freight costs continue to be at high levels, which is limiting import volumes.
