GB milk deliveries: volumes continue to break records

Wednesday, 11 March 2026

GB milk deliveries in February totalled an estimated 986 million litres, up 3.7% compared to the same period in 2025. Deliveries averaged 35.2 million litres per day.

For this year’s milk season so far (April-February), production totalled 11,887 million litres, a 5.3% increase compared to the same period in the previous milk year, and the highest volume logged for February on record keeping pressure on processing capacity.

Favourable dairy economics and higher use of concentrate feed have been supporting growth, this milk year. Volumes have recorded highs despite the cuts to farm gate milk prices which began in the Autumn.

Volume growth has been coming from an increase in yield per cow, as the latest BCMS population data recorded a 1.3% decline in the GB milking herd. As inputs costs rise, margins are likely to become much less favourable.

As we approach the spring flush, weather and grass growth will play a significant role in grazing feasibility. Our upcoming Milk Forecasting Forum will discuss the next developments, which will be published later this month.
