GB deadweight cattle prices continue new year fall

The GB all-prime average deadweight cattle price dropped by 1.4p for the week ending 12 February to 403.7p/kg. Prices have been steadily dropping week on week since the beginning of the new year where the price was 408.4p/kg. Despite this, current prices are still 51.6p above the 5-year average.

Prices for steers and heifers continued to fall this week down by 1.7p and 0.6p respectively.  Although the price of young bulls fell 3.8p this week to 385.1p/kg, this price is up 29.7p on the same week a year ago. Cull cow prices continue to rise, up 5.7p on the week to 283.9p/kg.

Prime cattle slaughter estimates increased by 900 head this week to 31,900 head. This is 3% lower than the same time last year and 0.9% lower than the 5-year average. Estimated cull cow slaughter dropped by 2.3% this week to 10,200 head which is also 0.9% below the 5-year average.
