Farmers to try new techniques

Thursday, 10 December 2020

Nearly eight out of ten farmers involved in AHDB’s virtual Strategic Cereal Farm week said they would try out new techniques on their farm as a result of the webinars they watched.

Strategic Cereal Farm Week – Winter 2020 ran from 16 – 20 November 2020, and had the three AHDB Strategic Cereal Farm hosts front and centre of the discussions.

Teresa Meadows, event organiser, said: “We had more people involved than we would have done with a physical event: we definitely were able to increase our reach this year. I’m really pleased that we had such good engagement and to see that the Strategic Cereal Farm programme is encouraging real activity on farms.”

With in-person events cancelled because of Covid-19 restrictions, AHDB used a range of platforms to help people get engaged: webinars, videos, social media, website updates, a podcast and a quiz.

The most popular event of the week was a webinar on cover- and catch-crops, with 208 people watching live and a further 302 catching up after the session.

AHDB has three Strategic Cereal Farms, hosted by Rob Fox (Strategic Cereal Farm West, near Leamington Spa), Brian Barker (Strategic Cereal Farm East, near Stowmarket) and David Aglen (Strategic Cereal Farm Scotland, Fife).
