Soil Biology and Soil Health Partnership - for Agronomists and Agricultural Consultants
Measuring soil health – get to grips with the rotational soil health scorecard approach

The event is targeting agronomists and on-farm advisors who would like to better understand soil health and put soil health measures into place with their clients.
Within the Soil Biology and Soil Health Partnership, we have been working to bring together a robust set of soil health indicators and testing them on-farm since 2017. We are now ready to demonstrate the rotational soil health scorecard approach, as developed for arable and grassland soils.
Come and see the approach in practice with the research team who developed it. Please note that the majority of the event will be held outdoors, with stops at field stations.
- Elizabeth Stockdale (NIAB) will first demonstrate how to carry out soil assessments for the soil health scorecard approach – what to do and when - with a chance for discussion
- Anne Bhogal (ADAS) will then provide an overview of soil health scorecard results from the tillage experiment at this site, and discuss other management that drives soil health, including organic matter, drainage, and pH
- Jenny Bussell (GWCT) will expand on the research methods that have been used to study soils at Loddington, including microbial respiration and GHG emissions
There will be opportunity for further discussion at the visitor centre afterwards, where tea and coffee will be available.
Bookings are limited to 55 people
