Making good silage - Back 2 Basics

Past Event

2 April 2019

7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Join AHDB Beef and Lamb and AHDB’s Siwan Howatson, for a webinar on the basic principles of making high-quality grass silage.
Grass is the most important, yet often overlooked, resource for livestock production. Well-managed grassland provides the most economic feed throughout the year, either as grazing or conserved forage.

Grass silage can provide high-quality forage for winter-feeding when done well. The challenge is to produce the right quantity at an appropriate quality for your stock, whether pregnant ewes, dry cows or finishing cattle.
There are many management decisions to make, including when to cut, how to store and how to feed.

The webinar will cover:
• Cutting date
• Whether to use bales or clamp?
• The ensiling process
• Troubleshooting silage problems
• Nutrients for consecutive cuts
• How to avoid clamp silage wastage

The webinar will last approximately 35 minutes, with time for questions at the end.

If you wish to get a certificate of attendance for your records, please email brp@ahdb.org.uk with your name and the name and date of the webinar you attended.
