Exploring inefficiency in your heifer unit: Staffordshire

Past Event - booking closed

Thursday, 12 December 2019

10:45am - 2:30pm

Townsend Farm, Townsend Lane, Scholar Green , Stoke-on-Trent, Cheshire East

ST7 3SS

Join us at this meeting to explore how to optimise the commonly neglected stage of heifer rearing, weaning to calving, by utilising data and setting targets.

What does age at first calving ‘really’ mean in terms of fertility?

Where and why do you draw the line on serving?

Join independent nutritionist, Hefin Richards (Rumination Nutrition Consultancy), Halton Farm's Karen Halton and AHDB’s Steve West to explore and learn more about:

  • What an average really tells you and what it’s hiding
  • The tools available to inform where your hidden costs lie, including Heifer Cost Calculator and Heifer Growth Target Tool
  • Creating an environment where heifers can thrive
  • Opportunity to benchmark your own business against AHDB KPI’s

We will visit the Halton Farms’ heifer unit at Townsend Farm to look at and understand the accommodation, feeding and routine management.

The event will then locate to the local village hall where we will have an interactive discussion about their current performance, strengths and weaknesses of the current system and the opportunities to improve heifer management.

Lunch is provided – please RSVP
