1:00pm - 3:30pm

Church Farm, Barfrestone, Dover, Kent

Join us for a farm walk with Will Smith as we return to Canterbury Monitor Farm.

We look forward to welcoming you back on-farm to provide an update on recent activity and look ahead to harvest 2021.

During this meeting we will discuss what is next for Canterbury Monitor Farm as the farm’s higher tier scheme comes to and end in January 2022. This discussion will cover how the farm can grow food and the environment simultaneously while also capitalising on future UK farming policy, alongside how managing the environment can help reduce input costs.

Other issues to be discussed in this meeting include:

  • Weed control with low input cereal option
  • Ryegrass resistance management
  • The role of livestock with relevant options on the farm
  • Natural predators – controlling BYDV/CSFB
  • Oilseed rape – risk management
  • Managing wild flower margins
  • Channelling access to the countryside
  • New sprayer handling facility proposals

We will be joined by Marek Nowakowski from the Wildlife Farming Company who will discuss ways to viably establish your field margins so as to encourage beneficials and reduce costs. Southern Water will also be attending the meeting to discuss how farm strategies can be integrated with their strategy.

This meeting will be subject to the COVID regulations set out by the Government and implemented by AHDB. Hand sanitiser stations will also be available and social distancing measures may be in place. No catering will be provided but bottled water will be available.
