New season lamb prices ease

Thursday, 20 August 2020

In the week ending 19 August, the GB liveweight NSL SQQ fell 10.3p on the week to average 204.63p/kg. The quote is still 27.9p above the price at the same point last year.

Total throughputs at GB auction marts dipped slightly on the week to total 126,098 head. Reports suggest that an ease in trade was experienced around most parts of the country, with marts reporting that well-meated, fully finished lambs were attracting the best returns.

In the week ending 15 August, the GB NSL SQQ deadweight price dipped by 0.7p on the week to average 468.3p/kg. The measure is still 73.9p above last year’s price for the same week.

Estimated slaughterings at British abattoirs totalled 268,500 head, up 5% on the week, but relatively steady on the year.
