Little change to new season liveweight lamb prices

In the week ending 26 August, the GB liveweight NSL SQQ was steady on the week to average 204.80p/kg. The quote is more than 30p above the price at the same point last year, and 28p above the five year average for the time of year.
Total throughputs at GB auction marts dipped by 21%, on the week to 99,417 head. Reports suggest the live trade is still firm and there is good demand for all weights of lambs.
In the week ending 22 August, the GB NSL SQQ deadweight price eased by 7.4p on the week to average 460.9p/kg. The measure is just short of 70p higher than last year’s price for the same week.
Estimated slaughter at British abattoirs totalled 259,700 head, 8,800 fewer than last week, and around 7,000 fewer than a year ago.
