GB milk deliveries: Further growth in March brings the 24/25 season to a close

Wednesday, 9 April 2025

GB milk deliveries are estimated to have totalled 1,114 million litres in March, up 2.7% compared to the same month last year. Daily deliveries averaged 35.94 million litres.

The increase in March deliveries brings the GB estimate for the 2024/25 season to 12.44bn litres, a significant increase of 0.7% compared to the previous season and in-line with our forecast. This is the highest milk-year volume recorded since the 2020/21 season. The figures include the extra day from the leap year in 2024.

Favourable dairy economics encouraged year-on-year growth in deliveries since September. The milk to feed price ratio is firmly in the expansion zone, almost at a 20 year high. The latest milk forecasting forum discussed to what extent the positive economics will incentivise production during the season and consensus suggested that production would remain high.

Recent April milk price announcements held mostly steady, and lower input costs are likely to continue to support milk flows.

More seasonable weather conditions have supported early turnout of cows so far this Spring. We anticipate that more favourable conditions are likely to continue through the flush period, aiding forage quality and availability this season.
