Deadweight sheep prices drop notably for a second week

The GB deadweight NSL SQQ price stood at 525.6p/kg for the week ending 6 August, a drop of 48.9p from the week previous.
This is the second week in a row with a significant drop in the deadweight SQQ price, putting it behind the price for this time last year by 3.2p. However, the measure is still 73.9p above the five-year average.
Estimated throughput at abattoirs for the week is 178,500 head, down 3% on the week and down 24% compared to the same time last year.
For the week ending 10 August, the GB liveweight NSL SQQ price averaged 251.5p/kg, up 7.6p on the week before, almost 51p more than the 5-year average.
Total throughput at auction markets for new season lambs is estimated at 103,000 head for the week, with no old season lambs recorded. This is an increase of 28% compared to last week and up 3% from the same week last year.
Cull ewe prices averaged £84.17/head during the week. An estimated 46,000 ewes came forwards, down 5% from last week, but 8% above the number for the same week last year.
