Blog: Showcasing British meat and dairy products in Hong Kong

Wednesday, 13 September 2023

Last week, we hosted meat and dairy exporters at Restaurant and Bar Hong Kong (RBHK), showcasing beef, lamb, pork and dairy products from the UK.

Our Export team were joined by eight meat and dairy exporters targeting the foodservice sector. It was great to reconnect with existing customers for the first time since the pandemic and meet lots of new people.

The timing of the show was important as visitors to Hong Kong are expected to increase over the cooler winter months.

Visitors were able to sample high-quality beef, pork and cheese from Britain, which was well received by decision-makers attending the show.

While it was great to be back in Hong Kong, we ended the week with the heaviest rainfall in over 140 years.

The Hong Kong Observatory reported rainfall of 158.1 mm in one hour, the highest since records began in 1884.

While it was dry when the team went out for dinner, it certainly wasn’t on the way back. The speed at which the water rose was unbelievable; within half an hour, the streets turned from wet roads into rivers.

We could not access our hotel until nearly 3am the following morning. Even then, the lift remained out of order and we had to climb the stairs to the 21st and 25th floors, quite a challenge in the heat and humidity of Hong Kong.

A big shout out to the team for showing good humour in the face of such a challenge, a credit to AHDB and the levy payers the team represents when promoting Quality Meat and Dairy from Britain – it just shows that international travel is not as glamorous as many believe!
