7:00pm - 8:30pm

Join AHDB’s Signet Breeding Services for the annual results update from the RamCompare project’s UK progeny test, with updated results from the year seven data collection.

For the first time results will be released online as 38,500 abattoir records from 400 RamCompare sires are incorporated into the National Terminal Sire Evaluation. SRUC’s new breeding index will be launched as the project steps up a gear and makes abattoir derived breeding values more widely available.

RamCompare clearly demonstrates the extent to which a lamb’s value is influenced by its sire’s genetics and this webinar will explain how this information can be used by ram breeders and buyers.

This webinar will discuss findings from the RamCompare project, including:

  • Abattoir traits now being evaluated as part of the National Terminal Sire Evaluation
  • New breeding values are valuable indicators of commercial performance for lambs being finished for slaughter
    • CT scanning remains an important tool to enhance predictions of carcase weight, yield and shape
    • Reducing days to slaughter can have an important economic consequence for flock performance
  • There are important genetic differences between sires in both the physical and economic performance of their offspring

RamCompare is the national progeny test for terminal sire breeds, funded by the levy boards AHDB, HCC, QMS; supported by Agrisearch in Northern Ireland and working with partners across the food chain.

To find out more about the project results and also how you can be involved in the next phase, sign up to this webinar today free of charge. You can still register even if you can't make the date and time, and you will receive a recording after the event.
