Using EID to drive farm performance

Past Event

7:00pm - 8:00pm

AHDB is hosting a webinar with independent livestock advisor Matt Blyth and Challenge Sheep project farmer, Ian Wilson, looking at how the use of electronic identification (EID) can aid decision making on farm to improve performance.

The webinar is suitable for beef and sheep farmers who are looking to use EID in the future or want to get more from their current system.

EID can make it easier to record and monitor performance on farm, speeding up procedures such as weighing, movements and recording medicine usage. Immediate access to animal data can help with management decisions, e.g. daily liveweight gains from last weighing could influence the decision to sell, continue to feed or identify potential health issues.

During the webinar, we’ll hear how Ian makes best use of EID to manage his 500 ewe flock in North Yorkshire. As part of the seven-year Challenge Sheep project, Ian is collecting data on ewe weight, body condition score, lambing data and lamb performance.

The webinar will cover:

  • Ian’s experience of using EID to improve flock performance
  • Examples of how EID can be used to monitor herd performance
  • How to turn data into meaningful targets for your system
  • The range of software available

The webinar will last approximately 35 minutes, with time for questions.

If you can’t make the webinar, please still register, as it will be recorded and sent to you afterwards to watch in your own time.
