Fit, functional and fertile replacement heifers are the foundation of any profitable suckler herd but can sometimes be seen as an unavoidable cost rather than an opportunity to improve and adapt for the future. Join Towcester Farm Vets and AHDB Beef & Lamb to discuss maximising the potential of replacement heifers and suckler fertility through breeding and selection.

This meeting will cover:

  • Why Maternal Matters, Emma Steele – AHDB
  • Understanding and using maternal Estimated Breeding Values, Sam Boon - AHDB
  • Cost effective vaccinations, use of pelvic scoring and artificial insemination, Katie Goodfellow – Towcester Farm Vets

We will then visit Tim Phipps (@BraunstonBeef) herd of Stabiliser Cattle. Tim runs a 340ha arable and beef unit with 150 Stabiliser cows. Tim sells purebred heifers and bulls for breeding with those not selected for breeding going finished to Morrisons where he is a ‘seeing is believing’ blueprint farm working towards Net Zero 2030.

Tim will talk about his approach to maximising the potential of his replacement heifers through careful breeding and selection and we’ll see his housing and handling system.

Register for your fully funded place by contacting Towcester Farm Vets on 01327 350239
