Cows and heifers calved within the first 6 weeks is a key measure for block calving herds with farms achieving 90% outperforming those with longer calving periods.

Come and find out how autumn calvers Buscot Wick Farm improved their herd fertility this breeding season following a drop from 86% in 2017 to 75% last year.

Owner Phil Kinch, herd manager Ben Redman and block calving focused vet Dave Gilbert will share how conception rates have already risen from 46.8% to 55.2% and heifer only rates from 32% with all natural heats to 65% on timed AI, as well as:

  • The measures taken to get fertility back on track
  • What worked…and what didn’t
  • The 6 week in-calf rate achieved
  • The targets and key contributory factors
  • Focus areas to further improve performance

If you’re responsible for heat detection and service in block calving herds or are interested in autumn block calving or benchmarking, then this meeting’s for you.
