During summer, heat stress is one of the factors that has the most significant negative impact on milk production, behaviour, health, and welfare of dairy cows, especially in highly productive animals. With an increased frequency of extreme weather events in European countries, it is important to understand the causes of heat stress in cows to improve milk production, reproductive performance and welfare.

Resistance arises when bacteria become insensitive to antibiotics, posing problems for disease control. Therefore, responsible and transparent antibiotic use by dairy farmers is important.

Lameness caused by hoof and leg ailments in dairy cows may impose significant costs on the farmer if not followed up and addressed correctly. Lame cows produce less milk, take longer to conceive and are more likely to be culled. They also eat less often, resulting in a lower body condition. So, an early detection of lame cows, a prompt action and a correct treatment (without injection of antibiotics except for interdigital phlegmon) are essential to resolve the situation.
