Friday, 2 August 2024

The latest AHDB quarterly cost of production and margin estimations have been published for Q2 2024.

These estimates use performance figures for breeding and finishing herds. They indicate that the full economic cost of production for Q2 2024 is estimated at 195p/kg deadweight, with margins per slaughter pig estimated at £14.86 per head and 16.74p/kg deadweight. The estimated cost of production has stayed relatively consistent with 2024 Q1 where the estimated cost of production stood at 194p/kg.

Feed costs have also remained consistent with Q1 2024 and make up 62% of total costs in Q2 of 2024. Feed costs have been increasing through Q2 which could see a greater impact on cost of production and net margins in the second half of 2024.

Energy prices fell (12%) considerably in the quarter compared to Q1, however there was an increase in fuel costs.

Pig prices have stayed consistent with the beginning of 2024 at 212p/kg (APP) in Q2 of 2024.
