Lamb prices broadly stable

In the week ending 11 May, liveweight sheep prices were relatively steady following last week’s slight decline. The OSL SQQ average shed 1.8p, to 269.30p/kg, while the NSL SQQ gained 0.4p to average 330.7p/kg.

An estimated 108,000 lambs (both OSL and NSL) were sold through market during the week, up 4000 from the previous week.

Where deadweight prices are concerned, prices were mixed during the week ending 7 May. The GB OSL SQQ averaged 603.3p/kg, down 2.6p from the week before. The NSL SQQ rose however, by 4.4p to average 659.4p/kg.

Estimated slaughter of clean sheep stood at 173,000 head in the week ending 7 May, down 20% from the previous week.
