GB pig prices drop slightly

The EU-spec SPP has remained relatively steady this week, dropping slightly by 0.15p to 138.85p/kg for the week ending 22 January.

The estimated slaughter was down 0.8% on last week at 177,915 head. This is up 2.6% from the same time last year. Carcase weight dropped slightly this week to 95.36kg. This is 0.6kg down from last week and is the first decrease in weight we have seen since mid-December. Probe measurements remained the same as last week at 11.9mm which is still the highest recorded measurement for the SPP sample.

The 7kg weaner price this week was £33.78/head which is similar to the last recorded price of £32.86/head from week ending 8 January.

The EU-spec APP stood at 144.38p/kg week ending 15 January. This is down 1.65p from the week previous and a larger drop than was seen on the SPP for the same week. The gap between the two price series now stands at 5.38p.
