GB milk production slows through January

Wednesday, 3 February 2021

By Chris Gooderham

The cold and wet weather in January appears to have slowed milk production, with volumes now (w/e 23 Jan) running 1.4% below our forecast.

While production rose by 2.1% through November, volumes were relatively stable in December and have now dropped by 0.8% over the last month. Much of that fall occurred between the 5 and 9 January, and the last two weeks have actually seen small rises.

Milk production dipped below last year’s levels in early January, and is currently running just 0.4% above it.

GB milk production for the whole of 2020 is provisionally put at 12,562m litres, which is 0.5% below 2019 once leap year adjusted.
