GB milk production remains low in February

GB milk production for February 2022 is estimated at 921 million litres based on our latest daily deliveries data. This is down 3.0% compared to the same time last year but in line with the normal seasonal rise in production.
Average daily deliveries in February are estimated at 32.91m litres/day, down from 33.92m litres/day in 2021. Production for the current season to date (April - February) has reached 11,279 million litres, 1.4% below last year’s total.
Continued lower milk production is supporting price increases on wholesale markets and, in turn, farmgate milk prices. While demand remains high, the supply deficit will continue to be the main driver of price movements on dairy markets. Although higher prices are usually an incentive to increase production levels the sustained increases in input costs are likely constraining production growth as pressure mounts on farmer margins.
