GB milk production passes peak

Friday, 22 May 2020

By Kat Jack

GB daily milk deliveries averaged 36.68 million litres for the week ending 16 May 2020. This was down 0.9% from the previous week, signalling that we have passed the peak. Current figures indicate that deliveries peaked on 7 May at 37.32ml, with the 7-day rolling average peaking on 9 May at 37.02ml. These figures may be subject to minor revisions.

Dry weather impacts grass growth

Warmer weather was supporting grass growth in the first part of May, but the lack of rain has started to take its toll. The latest Forage for Knowledge grass growth data shows a drop off in grass growth for the week ending 21 May.  If this continues it could have add additional downwards pressure to milk production going forwards.
