GB finished pig prices lose ground again

Wednesday, 2 September 2020

In the week ending 29 August, the GB EU-spec SPP fell by 0.34p on the week to average 162.38p/kg. This price is around 9p higher than last year.

Estimated slaughter at British abattoirs totalled 169,500 head during the week, 7,300 head lower than the week before. Industry reports still cite factory breakdowns as causing significant numbers of pigs to be rolled.

Carcase weights averaged 85.20kg, 560g lighter on the week. This is still over 1.5kg above year earlier levels though.

In the week ending 22 August, the EU-spec APP fell by 0.36p to average 165.91p/kg. The measure is still more than 10p higher than a year ago. The premium of the APP to the SPP widened to 3.19p.

In the week ending 29 August, GB 30kg weaners averaged £53.06/head, down £8.65 since a price was last available two weeks ago. Unfortunately, no 7kg price was available this week.
