GB deadweight pig prices continue down

In the week ending 8 August, GB pig prices continued to fall.
The EU-spec SPP averaged 163.84p/kg, a fall of 0.84p on the week. The price is still 10.83p above the same week last year. Estimated slaughter at British abattoirs totalled 156,100 head, down 3,300 head on the week.
Industry reports suggest the market continues to be well supplied. Some pigs have reportedly been rolled over due to processing issues.
Carcase weights averaged 85.70kg, a fall of 80g on the week. Compared to the same week last year, average carcase weights are 2.2kg heavier.
In the week ending 1 August, the EU-spec APP averaged 168.02p/kg, a slip of 0.05p on the week. The price is still 12.81p higher than the same week last year.
In the week ending 8 August, 7kg weaners averaged £42.40/head, while £30kg weaners averaged £56.56/head, down £2.87 on the week. Industry reports suggest that supply continues to improve, but demand is not rising to match it.
