Finished pig prices fell again in the week ending 26 December. The EU-spec SPP fell by 1.15p to average 147.34p/kg. This measure is now 15.10p below the same week last year but remains above the five-year average by 1.72p.

This was the short Christmas week, and so estimated throughput fell notably on the week, to 100,800 head. This was below the five-year average (-14,600 head), but up 11,800 head when compared to the Christmas week last year.

Carcase weights dropped back a little on the week, averaging 87.40kg, 120g less than the previous week. This was the third consecutive week of decline. Average carcase weights remain heavier than last year, by 2.86kg.

The EU-spec APP averaged 152.75p/kg in the week ending 19 December, dropping on the previous week by 1.66p. Again, prices remain above the five-year average (+3.12p), but down on the same week last year (-11.08p). The gap between the SPP and APP narrowed again, standing at 4.26p.

In the week ending 26 December, 7kg weaners averaged £38.52/head, down 77p from the previous week. Unfortunately, the sample data for the 30kg weaners was not robust enough to publish a price this week.

Prices for the following week will be published later this week.
