Cattle prices stable

In the week ending 31 October, the GB all prime average cattle price remained unchanged on the week, standing at 367.3p/kg. Prices have been steady for over a month, but continue to trend high for the time of year, with the all prime price up by nearly 47p compared to the same week in 2019, and up on the five-year-average by almost 21p. This remains the highest price recorded for the same week in at least the last six years.
Estimated throughputs of prime cattle for the week totalled 31,600 head, down on the previous week by 400 head (-1%), and down by 7.2% on the year.
Weekly prime price movements for the w/e 31 October:
- Steers overall: 368.3p/kg, up 0.1p
- Heifers overall: 367.7p/kg, down -0.1p
- Young bulls overall: 353.6p/kg, down -0.6p
Cull cow prices fell by -1.9p on the week to average 237.8p/kg. Overall, prices remain strong on the year, up by nearly 28p on the five-year-average. Estimated cull cow slaughter was up on the week to total 14,000 head, up 800 head (+6%) on the week before.
