Another strong week for store and finished lambs

Thursday, 10 September 2020

In the week ending 9 September, the GB liveweight NSL SQQ was relatively stable, losing only 2.8p to average 212p/kg. GB auction market throughputs were up again on the week, this time by 12% at 131,200 head.

The continued strength in the finished market is also apparent in store sheep prices. These averaged £64.60/head in the week ending 5 September, nearly £12 higher than at this point last year. Market reports suggest longer keep animals are of particular interest.

Meanwhile, the GB deadweight NSL SQQ recovered much of last week’s losses, gaining 13p in the week ending 5 September to average 457.5p/kg. This is over 70p higher than the same week last year. Estimated throughputs at British abattoirs fell slightly on the week, by 3,000 head to 266,000 head.
