AHDB strengthens its dairy team in Scotland

The Agricultural and Horticultural Development Board (AHDB), has appointed Robert Stevenson to the role of Knowledge Exchange Manager for Dairy in Scotland.
Robert will work closely with Doreen Anderson, AHDB’s Senior Knowledge Exchange Manager for Dairy in Scotland. He will provide a link between Scottish dairy farmers, industry partners and AHDB by coordinating knowledge exchange activity and facilitating face-to-face events when possible.

Doreen commented: “I am delighted that Robert is joining the Scottish dairy team. His knowledge and experience of dairy farming will add depth to the work we are already doing. We will be working together with our Strategic Dairy Farm hosts, James and Wallace Hendrie from Millands farm in Ayrshire, and Gareth and David Owen from Potstown in Dumfries & Galloway, to deliver their strategic farm programmes.

“Robert joins at a pivotal time when levy payers are being asked to have their say about the areas they want AHDB to focus on and we are already working together on several events planned for the New Year, that will be informative and helpful in the face of the current challenges dairy farmers are facing.”
Robert is a farmer’s son based in Ayrshire who is no stranger to dairying as he spent two years in Australia as a herdsman to an 800-cow block calving unit. He then worked as a ruminant specialist with Harbro before becoming the Scottish regional manager for Saskatoon Colostrum Company. His family farm has since left dairying, but he’s stayed involved by milking for neighbouring farmers on weekends.

Robert began his role with AHDB on 6th December. He said: “I’m excited to get started in my new role. Dairy has always been a passion of mine and I’m eager to help the industry and our hard-working dairy farmers. In my opinion, giving farmers the opportunity to learn through the various platforms AHDB has to offer is a great way to improve farming practices. I’m confident AHDB can offer all our dairy farmers something that will be of real benefit and value to their business.”
